Belva J Sutherland

Belva June Sutherland age 83 of Plattsmouth passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, Nebraska.  She was born on August 8, 1936 in Glidden, Iowa to Leon Howard and Rena Elizabeth (James) Thorne.

Belva graduated from High School in Sheldahl, Iowa with the Class of 1954.  Several years later, she attended Southeast Community College and completed her training to be an LPN.  She enjoyed caring for others throughout her years in nursing.

She was an amazing cook and baker and shared her talents with others by baking cookies for friends and family.  In her free time, she crocheted hats for newborns and individuals suffering from cancer.  She also made a variety of blankets for the humane society.  In her later years, she enjoyed keeping her mind sharp by working a variety of puzzles.

Belva is survived by her daughters, Tracy (Dana Strobel) Powell of Plattsmouth, NE, Terri Lowe of Mesa, AZ, son, Douglas Sutherland of Memphis, TN, five grandchildren, Dwight, Christopher, Bryan, Aaron and Sarah, three great grandchildren, Hunter, Grayson and McKenzie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dennis Sutherland, grandson, Dennis Powell, three sisters and one brother.

Per Belva’s wishes, she will be cremated and no services or visitation will be held.

Memorials may be given to the FRED & PAMELA BUFFETT CANCER CENTER.
