Bernita Ann Zimmer, age 62 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Friday, March 7th, 2025 in Omaha, Nebraska. Bernita was born at the Offutt Air Force Base Hospital in Bellevue, Nebraska, on June 22nd, 1962, to Harry and Ruth (Hendrix) Marker.
Bernita graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1980, and soon after, she united in marriage with her devoted husband, Steve Zimmer, on April 24, 1982, in Goehner, Nebraska. Together, they built a beautiful family and life, blessed with two loving children, Amber and Patrick.
A member of the First Lutheran Church, Bernita found joy in serving through Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. Her community involvement included roles as a Lady of the Realm in the Plattsmouth Harvest Festival and director in the Plattsmouth Lions Club. Bernita supported various school activities, including the Plattsmouth Band Parents Organization, the Plattsmouth High School Bowling Team, and the Plattsmouth Baseball Program. A committed 40-year member of the Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club, Bernita was known for her passion for fishing, hunting, camping, and kayaking with her granddaughters.
Bernita was known for her warmth and welcoming nature. She made friends easily and was especially known for her colorful collection of green purses. She cherished family vacations, creating lasting memories in Walt Disney World, Branson, Wisconsin Dells, Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, and along the shores of Branched Oak during the yearly cousin camping trips.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Zimmer, daughter, Amber Wilkins and husband Ryan, son, Patrick Zimmer and wife Jessica, grandchildren, Alexi and Elise Wilkins and Hendrik Zimmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth Marker, and her brother, Harold Marker,
Her legacy as an organ donor has turned her into the miracle many prayed for, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Visitation will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth, NE, on Tuesday, March 11th, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with family greeting friends from 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service celebrating Bernita's life will take place at the First Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, at 11:00 am.
Memorial donations in Bernita's honor may be directed to the Plattsmouth Lions Club.
