Betty Irene Fischer, age 96 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10th, 2025, at the Hillcrest Country Estates Cottages in Papillion, Nebraska.  She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 15th, 1928, to Elmer and Cecile (Haile) Barnhill.

In 1946, she graduated from Lincoln High School, where she met her husband of 68 years, Richard Fischer. They were married on April 4, 1948. After raising their two children, Richard and Carol, in several communities across southeastern Nebraska, including Milford, Wymore, and Pawnee City, they settled in Plattsmouth. Wherever Richard’s job with Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph took them, Betty made lifelong friends and loved being part of church and social clubs, like Extension Club, Twentieth Century Club, Evening Circle, Mariners, and P.E.O Chapter F. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, serving as an Elder, a Deacon, and a member of several committees. She and Richard traveled extensively, taking multiple trips to Europe, visiting many National Parks, and making memories at Disney World and their favorite getaway spot, Branson.

She was happiest being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Carol, and son-in-law, Steve Hoffman (Overland Park, KS) and daughter-in-law, Janet Fischer (Milford, NE) as well as her grandchildren: Jennifer Fischer (Omaha, NE), Drew (Leslie) Fischer (Omaha, NE), Emily Hoffman (Russellville, AR), and Alex Hoffman (Overland Park, KS). In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Taylor Barrett and Ellen, Jackson, and Evan Fischer; and two great-great-grandchildren, Adaleigh and Grayson. She also leaves behind her siblings, brother Leonard Barnhill and sister Lorraine Lawson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Cecile Barnhill, her husband, Richard H. Fischer, her son Richard L. Fischer, and an infant great-granddaughter, Jordyn Kay Homan.

Betty was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in a Private Family Service.
