Gail "Butch" Dean Choate, 74, of Plattsmouth, passed away on January 27, 2026. He was born on February 21, 1951, in Ellensburg, Washington, to William and Beulah (Carney) Choate.
During his younger years, Butch attended Plattsmouth High School, where he proudly played football in the late 1960s. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1970. After high school, he worked as a union bricklayer after many years working as a brick layer he went to work maintenance at the Masonic home, where he retired. Butch was united in marriage to Debra K. Clark in August of 1985 in Plattsmouth.
Butch was a quiet man, known for his easygoing nature and quick wit. Those who knew him will fondly remember his infectious sense of humor and the joy he brought into every room. He enjoyed spending time with his family along with visiting with friends at DC's Waterhole. A true outdoorsman at heart, Butch had a deep passion for coon hunting, trapping, and fishing. He also devoted many hours to tending his garden and took great pride in cooking for the people he loved. Although he was always a dog lover, he developed a special fondness for cats later in life.
Butch is survived by his wife, Debra Choate of Plattsmouth; his children, Kim (Mike) Schroeder of Aberdeen, Washington, and Toby (Laura) Choate of Plattsmouth; his stepchildren, J.J. (Kim) Tilson and Nate (Jaime) Tilson, both of Plattsmouth; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Beulah Choate.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
