Dezirae was born on August 23th, 2008. She was a vibrant, healthy, happy baby. By the age of 7 months we began to notice that she was falling behind on her development. At one year of age she was diagnosed with Developmental Delay. As she continued to grow older, her condition worsened. She was able to sit up, almost crawl, and feed herself, but she was slowly losing all those abilities. After 9 months of trying to figure out why this was happening, she was diagnosed with Sandhoff disease on December 16th, 2009. She lost the ability to swallow, so she had surgery two weeks after her diagnosis to have a g-button placed in her stomach for tube feeds. At this point she lost all abilities to move on her own, and her eye sight was quickly diminishing. By May 2010 we were told that she needed to have a trach or else her airway would collapse within weeks. In May she had a tracheotomy. After the surgery she had many hospital stays and was sick quite often. Since August she had not been sick, yet her health continued to decline. The week before her death, her mother and father started to sense that her time was coming near. On Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 at 9:15 pm, she took her last breath in her princess bed in the arms of her mom and dad. Dezirae touched the lives of many without ever saying a word or taking a step on this Earth. Dezirae is now resting in the arms of Jesus, singing, dancing, and telling secrets.
