Donald “Don” D. Holman was born on February 17, 1931 in Hamburg, Iowa to Oscar and Leta (Leckenby) Holman. He passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 surrounded by family at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, Nebraska.
He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1949. On March 24, 1951 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Liz” Matney in Farragut, Iowa and together they raised three daughters, Sandra, Linda, and Teresa. Don worked most of his adult life as a pipeline construction project superintendent. Later he worked as the City of Plattsmouth Street Superintendent. Don and Liz owned and operated the Avenue Bar.
Don was an avid baseball fan and as a young man played in the Hamburg city leagues. He once batted against Satchel Page in an exhibition game. He enjoyed watching other sporting events, reading, hunting, fishing, billiards, and golf. He was a member of Plattsmouth Lodge #6A.F. & A.M. and the Plattsmouth Eagles Club FOE#365. Don’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Liz Holman, Plattsmouth, NE; daughters, Sandy (Jim) McKnight, Plattsmouth, NE; Linda (Rob) Brown, Elkhorn, NE: Teresa Hobbs, Lincoln, NE. Seven Grandchildren and Spouses: Debra McKnight, Heather Hobbs, Nancy (Jenkins) Kirk, Doug McKnight, Michelle Hobbs, Dan Jenkins, Greg McKnight. 11 Great Grandchildren, sister, Helen Courtney, Hamburg, IA, sister-in-law, Marlene Matney, Omaha, NE. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Robert & Leonard Holman and sister, Ruth Briley.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Tues (12/4) at 10:00 A.M. – Harvey Funeral Home Chapel, Plattsmouth, NE.
VISITATION: Mon. (12/3) from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth, NE
