Donna Lee McClean was born in Omaha on September 3, 1947 to Joe and Reggie Davis. Her parents and husband Clifford W. McClean proceeded her in death. Surviving relatives include her daughter Vicki (Jeff) Wiles, along with Cliff’s children Cherie Larson, Tim (Shanna) McClean, Lori (Mike) Miller, Julie (Tim) McCormick. Six grandchildren including Sarah and Ben Larson. Also, an older sister Lynne (Stan) Helmke, nephew Chad Helmke and niece Valerie Helmke.
Donna lived and worked in Omaha a majority of her life. She and Cliff were married June 11, 1983. They were both active in their respective B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #39 and B.P.O.E. Does Drove #1. They spent many nights at meetings, events, serving in leadership positions and enjoying their friends at dinners and dances. Donna worked for Methodist Billing Department where she met her co-worker and best friend Michelle Erickson. Donna went on to be a special education para professional at Westside and Millard School Districts. So, Donna, Cliff, Michelle and her husband Tracy got together often to keep in touch. . . making many memories.
In retirement, Donna and Cliff enjoyed taking MANY cruises, visiting Hawaii, attending Omaha Royals (later Omaha Storm Chasers) games and enjoying family. Donna, Cliff and later Cherie attended most home Storm Chaser games and Donna could tell you the names and stats of the players (She did have her favorites and not-so favorites). Donna also followed college football, several NFL football teams and watching the KC Royals baseball team. The most intense competition came on family trivia outings or game nights at her home. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching her ‘shows’ on tv that included several Food Network/cooking shows. Donna was a wonderful cook. Her food was enjoyed at family gatherings, work food days, by family dogs and anyone else that needed to be fed. She became most well-known for her desserts. Donna could bake pies, cakes, bars, breads, muffins, pounds of Christmas cookies and the holiday ‘snack mix’ bag. Whether it was an event at Jeff and Vicki’s, a Husker football tailgate or something for Jeff or Cherie to take to school, she was always up to making something full of sugar delight. . . . fondly called a ‘Donna Dessert’. Friends and relatives often requested special pies for birthdays or just in general.
Upon moving to Plattsmouth in her later years, she joined and became quite active at Hosanna Lutheran Church. She attended services, bible study groups and helped cook for various functions. Donna enjoyed her church family and missed not being able to attend these past few years due to her breathing complications and Covid. At home, she enjoyed feeding/watching her outside birds, her beautiful flowers in her yard, and growing plants inside. And, just like the Hallmark Christmas movies, Christmas at her house started before Thanksgiving. She loved decorating, cooking and baking for the holidays. Her Christmas tree was marveled by all that passed by her house or visited.
