Dorothy Bernhardt

February 14, 1934 — August 2, 2019

Dorothy Lea Bernhardt age 85 of Minden, Nebraska, formerly of Plattsmouth, was born on February 14, 1934, in Davenport, Nebraska to Robert Dale and Gertrude Elizabeth (Clark) Beavers.  She passed away peacefully on August 2, 2019, at Franklin Care Center in Franklin, Nebraska.

Dorothy spent her life working with the mentally challenged and truly loved her clients.  She enjoyed her time teaching at the Education Service Unit #9 in Hastings, Nebraska before eventually managing a group home in Omaha and finally working in Glenwood, Iowa.  She was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed a friendly bet on the side, of course, she always took Nebraska. She loved to paint and draw. Dorothy was fiercely independent and many times shared her feelings in letters. Dorothy worked as a CASA volunteer and felt strongly about advocating for those less fortunate.  She loved her family and her pets. After retiring some of her happiest times were spent camping with friends. While in Plattsmouth she was an active member of Living Water Church.

She is survived by her children Patricia (Mike) Whitney of Minden, NE, William (Terri) Kinyoun of North Bend, OR, Kyle (Nancy) Kinyoun of Clay Center, NE, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several stepchildren.  She is also survived by a brother Clark (Mary) Beavers of Longmont, CO, and special friends John and Pat Tapp of Omaha, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Barton Fate.
