Ethlyn Mae Spires, 90, of Malvern, Iowa, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, in Idaho Falls, Idaho while visiting her son. She was born on March 11, 1934, in Sedgwick, Colorado, to William Chris and Kathrine (Michel) Williams.
Ethlyn grew up on a farm south of Plattsmouth. She went to a one room country school. When she attended Plattsmouth High School she stayed with her brother during the week and went home on the weekends. She was united in marriage to Melvin Flint on February 8, 1952 and together they raised three children, Terry, Gene, and Cindy. She wanted the best for her children and worked with them on our farm. After the children were grown, she was united in marriage to George Spires on December 19, 1986, in Lakeland, Florida. She was very adventurous and loved to try new things. Her last adventure was riding a bush plane in Alaska a few weeks ago.
Ethlyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She found joy in gardening, traveling, reading, spending time with her family along with family history work for her family.
She is survived by her children, Terry (Dione) Flint of Rigby, ID, Gene (Theresa) Flint of Union, NE, and Cindy (Patrick) Herrick of Malvern, IA. Ethlyn’s legacy continues through her 18 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Edith (Art) Tesarek of Plattsmouth, NE, and her brother, Leonard Williams of Glenwood, IA
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband George Spires, her brothers Harold, Albert, Edward, Robert, Raymond, Ronnie, and Walt, and her sister Esther.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 2128 Lincoln Ave. Plattsmouth, NE, officiated by Bishop Devin Hawkins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Harvey Funeral Home located at 1408 8th Ave. Plattsmouth.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in 149 Oak Hill Road Plattsmouth, Nebraska
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation
