Howard Allen Schoech was born on October 30, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas. He entered into rest on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Bellevue, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 23 days.
After graduating from High School, he attended the University of Washington in St. Louis, Missouri, attaining his bachelor’s degree. After college, Howard entered into the United States Air Force on September 11, 1956. During 20 year career in the Air Force, he served in Vietnam, Southeast Asia, Cambodia and Thailand as a Navigator Bombardier. He retired from active duty on September 30, 1976 as a Lt. Colonel.
After his military service, he obtained a Masters of Divinity Degree from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He was ordained as an Episcopal Priest and accepted his first parish St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Plattsmouth, Nebraska in 1979. On December 26, 1983, he was united in marriage to Janet Evers at The Episcopal Cathedral Chapel in Omaha. In 1989, he became the Priest at Holy Family Parish in Omaha, Nebraska and served until retiring in 1995. After retirement, he and Janet made their home on the family farm west of Plattsmouth.
Howard is survived by wife Janet – Plattsmouth and children Curt (Emily) Schoech – Bellevue, Will (Julia) Schoech – Austin, TX, James (Tawnya) Schoech – Houston, TX, Anne Schoech, Step daughter Leigh Anne (Ryan) Kreykes – Phoenix, AZ. 6 Grandchildren Brandon, Emilee, Mike, Matt, Rory Schoech and Grace Kreykes;.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Sue Schoech and a brother Curtis Schoech.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska with Father Phil Chapman officiating.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 4-7 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Nebraska City, Ne.
