Frances A Krejci

December 14, 1911 — September 30, 2014

FRANCES AUGUSTA (ULRICH) KREJCI, age 102, of Plattsmouth NE, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday evening, September 30, 2014 at Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born December 14, 1911 on a farm near Mynard NE. to Ewald and Josephine (Dietl) Ulrich. Frances was the third born of eight children, all of which lived in or near Cass County most of their lives. She attended a country elementary school and graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the class of 1930. After graduating from high school, she worked for the Norfolk Canning Company until November 30th, 1933. This was the day she married Francis B. Toman in St. John’s Catholic Church, Plattsmouth. It was the fourth year of the Great Depression so working women who married were asked to give up their jobs for unemployed men who were the sole breadwinners of their family. The newlyweds, Frances A. and Francis B. (Frosty) Toman, settled on a 2.7 acre property on the south edge of Plattsmouth (Chicago & Lincoln Avenues) where she was destined to live for the next 80 years. They were an industrious, fun loving couple who enjoyed gardening, and tending just enough farm animals to provide milk, eggs and meat. In the Pre-WWII years, Frosty had a Shell filling station on the corner of the property which Frances helped him with, because he also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. They loved socializing, mostly with their other 12 brothers and sisters and families. In 1941, their first and only son, Ronnie, was born. This kept Frances busy as a mother and homemaker all during the war years. In 1954, Frances started working as a ledger clerk and stenographer at the main street office of Consumer’s Public Power District in Plattsmouth. This was a career that lasted 20 years until she retired in May 1974. She always gave thanks for that job because she was widowed in June of 1956 with no other means of support. Five years later, Frances married Henry Krejci (Hank) on February 11, 1961. They made their home on her property south of town, where Hank built a new house for her in 1967. They were married 42 years until his death in March 2003. In her later years, Frances looked forward to vacation travel, especially to California to visit her son. Frances was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church Community in Plattsmouth and active in the Church of the Holy Spirit until her 100th Birthday She was always known for her radiant smile and easy going disposition. When she had to sell her home place of 80 years she accepted it as yet another phase of life- without complaint, (giving up her car was another story). For the last two years she was faithfully attended by the devoted staff of Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center operated by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration. Although she was wheelchair bound, she bore her plight with edifying patience, always preserving her amiable disposition, until death crystallized the sweet smile on her gentle face and the Good Lord called her home to eternal rest. Frances is survived by two sisters- Anna Livingston of Ozark, MO, and Dorothy Babcock of Goshen, NY; one son- Lt Col Ronald Toman (USAF Ret) and wife Rosemary of Colorado Springs, CO; one granddaughter- Christine (Toman) Hofer and her husband Christopher of Greensboro, NC; two grandsons-Major John P. Toman USAF and his wife Jen of Prague, Czech Republic and Andre A. Toman and his wife Corey of Buffalo, NY; five great-grandchildren- Breanna, Mathew, Kaylea, and Nicole Hofer, and Alexa Toman; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents-Ewald and Josephine; husbands Francis B. Toman and Henry J. Krejci; three brothers- Carl, Albert, and Bernard Ulrich; two sisters Freda Fahrlander and Helen Schneider. Visitation is 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, October 10th at Brian Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Rosary Service followed by Vigil will be at 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Church of The Holy Spirit. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday October 11th at Church of the Holy Spirit, Plattsmouth, with Msgr. Paul K. Witt officiating. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Plattsmouth. Pallbearers will be Larry Boyer, Tom Livingston, Bill Sullivan, Ralph Schneider, Lorin Toman and James Ulrich. The family suggests memorials to The Church of the Holy Spirit for Masses or to St. John the Baptist School in her memory.
