Obituary

Fred D. Parise, aged 79, of Nehawka, Nebraska passed away May 5, 2026, at Hillcrest Country Cottages in Papillion, Nebraska. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947, in Antigo, Wisconsin to George and Mildred (Dake) Parise.

Fred graduated from Elcho High School in 1965. On February 25, 1978 he was united in marriage to Helene (Koenigs) Brandstetter at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Elcho, Wisconsin. Fred lived in various places throughout his life, including Elcho, Wisconsin, Roswell, New Mexico and southeast Nebraska. He spent many fulfilling years self employed as a logger, excavator, and lawn and yard maintenance, worked in factories as a machinist, and worked in the oil fields of New Mexico. His hobbies included "making firewood", refinishing and repurposing treasures he found at auctions and yard sales. His hard work and dedication earned the respect and admiration from his peers.

He enjoyed doing "Fred-neck" things, a term coined by his brother. Every home he lived in was a fixer-upper in which he saw the potential, doing much of the work himself. In addition to his dedication to family, Fred loved his chickens, enjoyed treasure hunting at auctions, and had a passion for cars. His grandchildren adored him, and the feeling was mutual. He was known for his love of family birthdays and gatherings. A natural storyteller, his tales would entertain and inspire laughter. When describing Fred, a family friend affectionately said, "a man his size was matched only by the size of his heart."

Fred is survived by his wife Helene Parise, his daughters Sheri Parise, Dr. Jackilyn (Jasper) Gleason and Dr. Anne (John) Murphy and his grandchildren: Alice Wentz, Rose Ellen Parise, Fred Parise, Gennifur Pearce, Jason Luft, Abigail Gleason, Morgan Gleason, Kaitlyn (Jacob) Wefel, First Lt. Sydney Murphy, Delaney Murphy, Gabriel Duhs, Elizabeth Duhs, Benjamin Duhs and Mary Anne Duhs. Fred is also survived by his siblings,, Gerald (Jayne) Parise, Thomas (Karen) Parise, Timothy Parise and Mildred Parise, as well as his in-laws: Tony (Loretta) Koenigs, Larry (Jeanne) Koenigs, Mary Ann Sinclair, Donna Koenigs, Cele (Bob) St. Lawrence, Grace (Larry) Hanke, Christine (Ron) Schwenck, Matthew (Nancy) Koenigs, and Patrick (Karen) Koenigs. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends that he considered family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Parise and his in-laws, Hugo and Anna Koenigs, as well as his in-laws: Kathleen and Ron Rabe, Lawrence Sinclair, Daniel Koenigs, Nicholas and Anne Koenigs, Phyllis Koenigs and Rosalie Koenigs.
