Gaylene Ann Johnson age 89 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away on September 28, 2026, at the Hillcrest Health and Rehabilitaion Center in Bellevue, Nebraska. Born on July 11, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska to Allen "Joe" B. and Mary C. (Melius) Peterson.

Gail was raised in Plattsmouth and graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1955. She furthered her education at Peru State College before marrying the love of her life, Kenneth E. Johnson, on May 31, 1957, at the First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth. in 1959 they moved to the East Bay area of Northern California where they raised their two children, Karen and Kenneth

Gail dedicated herself to her family as a loving stay-at-home mom, actively participating in all her children's activities and events. Once her children had grown, she re-entered the workforce with World Savings & Loan Bank, where she started as a part-time teller to Branch Manager, and ultimately served as the Director of Policy & Procedure in the Corporate offices before her retirement.

In 2000, Gail and Ken returned to their roots, settling back in Plattsmouth. Gail was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, one of Gail's quilts was auctioned at the Harvest Festival Quilt Show. Her passion for genealogy led her to trace the histories of both her and Ken's families through generations.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and participated in PEO.

Gail is survived by her husband, Kenneth Johnson of Plattsmouth, NE; her children, Karen (Wayne) Boucher of Castro Valley, CA and Kenneth (Carolyn) Johnson of San Angelo, TX; her grandchildren, Erin Johnson, Lauren (Hank) Vantil, Emily (Baron) Johnson, Gregory (Brittany Horwitz) Boucher, and Alex (Candace) Boucher. her siblings, Peggy Peterson of Albany, OR, Jean Peterson of Grand Island, NE, and Rex (Janet) Peterson and Lincoln, NE.

Gail was preceded in death by: Allen & Mary Peterson and sister, Nancy Vase

A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth.
