Gene Raymon Haswell Sr., was born near the city of Louisville, in Cass County Nebraska on March 3, 1931 to Lee Joseph and Clara Elisabeth (Parker) Haswell. He grew up living in various places in Cass and Otoe counties in Nebraska. Gene graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1949 and enlisted in the Air Force in October 1950. He served for four years, some of those years as an MP in Newfoundland, and was honorably discharged in October 1954.
Gene worked nine and a half years for the railroad and then worked the remainder of his life at Linder Firestone as a mechanic and tractor tire repairman until he retired. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman and still holds the Nebraska state archery record for a paddlefish (86 pounds). He was also well known for his skill in leatherworking and as an artist (he drew a lot of his own patterns). Many people in Plattsmouth owned a billfold or purse made by Gene. He was also remembered for his skill with a pool que.
Gene is survived by his brothers Joy L. Haswell and Dale Bruns (wife Janet), Sisters Florence Reaboldt and Ruth Johnson (husband Tom) and sons Gene Raymon Jr., Raymon Edward, Dennis Lee, Gabriel Lee and step son Troy Christopher, numerous grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Joseph Haswell and Clara Elizabeth Mary Parker Haswell Bruns and stepfather Albert Bruns, sister Miriam Payton, sister in law Shirley Haswell, brother in law Harry Reaboldt and son Patrick Dennis.
Friends are invited to join the family in Celebration of Gene's Life on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Harvey Funeral Home, Plattsmouth, NE.
A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 PM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Stuhr officiating.
