Obituary

George Edward Sachs, age 77 of Plattsmouth passed away at his home surrounded by family on December 28, 2025. He was born on April 20, 1948, in Omaha, Nebraska, to George W. and Violet M. (Junge) Sachs.

George's family moved to a farm near Mynard in 1951, where he attended grade school at the Little Brick School and later graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1966. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he obtained his bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971. From 1972 - 1977, he began his federal career with the Army Corps of Engineers. George would then go on to serve with distinction as a Mechanical and later Civil Engineer for over 39 years at the Strategic Air Command Headquarters on Offutt Air Force Base. Following his retirement from civil service, he continued to contribute to the local community by working at the Hy-Vee Store in Plattsmouth, NE, always donning his signature bow tie.

A devoted member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, George was actively involved in various ministries, serving as a Lector and Acolyte, and he enjoyed a distinguished membership as a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. His commitment to the church extended to driving a school bus for community children.

George was not only passionate about his work and community service but also embraced hobbies that brought him joy. An avid bowler, he cherished his time coaching youth bowling in Plattsmouth and fostering a love for the sport in future generations. His pride and joy for the past 50 years was restoring his 1954 Mercury. His family was the cornerstone of his life and he enjoyed time together especially the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheila Sachs of Plattsmouth; his sons, Scott Sachs of Plattsmouth, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Sachs of Westlake Village, CA, and Andrew (Rachel Gregory-Sachs) Sachs of Bennington, NE; grandchildren, Zaida, Nora, Sophia, Madison and Caleb Sachs; his siblings, sister Jean Sachs and brother Edward (Susan) Sachs both of Florida and sister-in-law, Mikki Sachs of Council Bluffs, IA. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Violet Sachs and brother Donald Sachs.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth with Father Mark Pfeiffer officiating. Visitation with family greeting friends will take place at the Church of the Holy Spirit on January 4, 2026, at 6:00 PM, followed by the Rosary at 7:00 PM.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
