Grace Elise Felthousen, age 86 of Plattsmouth, passed away on July 10, 2023, at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Grace was born on July 15, 1936, in a humble cabin in Chadron, Nebraska, to the late Vernon V. and Elsie E. (Wollesen) Mascher.
In her formative years, Grace graduated from Tech High School in Omaha in 1954, where she displayed a strong passion for learning and helping others. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) in 1958, laying the foundation for her lifelong career in healthcare. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Felthousen on September 20, 1958 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Grace's nursing career spanned an impressive four decades, during which she selflessly cared for countless patients. She worked at various esteemed institutions, including Davis County Hospital in Owensboro, Kentucky, and the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Notably, she spent many years as an Labor and Delivery Nurse at the renowned Nebraska Medical Center, where her exceptional skills and compassionate nature made a lasting impact. Grace had the honor of assisting in the delivery of the first set of quintuplets born in Nebraska, a testament to her expertise and dedication to her profession.
Outside of her professional life, Grace shared a beautiful journey with her beloved husband, Bob. They enjoyed the art of square dancing, exploring the world together, and creating cherished memories. Grace had a wide range of hobbies and talents, including quilting, gardening, sewing, and baking. Her creativity and attention to detail were evident in her quilts, which she lovingly crafted and shared with her family and friends.
One of Grace's passions was collecting Department 56 Christmas village buildings, and she amassed an impressive collection of over 350 structures. She took great pleasure in sharing her collection with loved ones. As a testament to her generosity, her cherished Department 56 Christmas village is now on display during the holidays at the SAC Museum, where it continues to delight visitors.
Above all, Grace's greatest joy in life came from her children and grandchildren. She embraced her role as a mother and grandmother with unwavering love, support, and pride. Her nurturing nature and the love she showered upon her family will forever be treasured.
She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Felthousen of Plattsmouth, NE, sons, Keith (Mickey) Felthousen of Murray, NE, Steven (Brenda) Felthousen of Beaver Lake, NE, son-in-law, Jeffrey McFee of Creston, IA, grandchildren, Kristian (Caleb) Carroll, Kim McFee, Chelsea (Brady) Phipps, Tallon (Riley) Barber and Trey Felthousen, great grandchildren, Eleanor & Eloise Carroll and Colter Barber, brother, Ivan ( Peggy) Mascher of Bayard, NE. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Barbara McFee and brother and sister-in-law, Eugene & Beverly Mascher.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, NE with Rev. Matt Coplen officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church.
