H. Dean Cowles

H. Dean Cowles age 94 of Plattsmouth passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He was born on June 23, 1925 in Morrefield, Nebraska to J. Earl and Vera (Stowe) Cowles.

After graduating from High School, Dean enlisted in the United States Navy and faithfully served his country during World War II.  After returning from the Navy, Dean enrolled in the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.  It was during his time at UNL that he met and was united in marriage to Mary Marohn on February 2, 1952 in Columbus, Nebraska.

Throughout his life, he worked for Standard Chemical Mfg. Co. where he retired as a Traffic and Distribution Manager.  Dean was very involved in several Masonic bodies throughout the years including, Past Master of Mizpah Lodge #302, Scottish Rite, Valley of Omaha, Orient of Nebraska, Shriner International and Scottish Society of Nebraska where he served as Librarian for nine years.  He was also a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, reading, photography and writing.

He is survived by his daughter Anne Hinton and her husband Bruce, grandson, Steven Hinton and his wife Courtney, grauddaughter, Kathryn Hinton, great grandson, Jason Dean Hinton (expected in January of 2020).

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Earl and Vera Cowles and wife Mary.

Prayer & Masonic Service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at The Nebraska Masonic Home, Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Bellevue, Nebraska with Fr. Thomas Jones officiating.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given to the Church of the Holy Spirit (Bellevue, NE), The Nebraska Masonic Home (Plattsmouth, NE) or charity of your choice.
