Harold G. “Harry” Wagner age 85 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away peacefully at his home in Plattsmouth on Sunday, January 24, 2021. He was born on October 1, 1935 in Seward, Nebraska to Joseph E. and Daisy R. (Gaines) Wagner.
Harry attended primary school in Johnstown, Nebraska and after the family moved to Plattsmouth in the 1940’s he graduated from Plattsmouth with the class of 1953. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserves where he faithfully served his country until retiring in 1985 as a Command Sergeant Major. He met Barbara G. Bole and the two were married on November 2, 1956 at the Christian Church in Old Town Bellevue, Nebraska. They made their home in Plattsmouth where they raised their children, Deborah, Tamara, Kevin, Jamie and Lisa.
Outside of his military service, Harry worked for 42 years for Union Pacific Railroad primarily in the Public Relations Department. During his time at UP, he was a member of the UP Quartet and traveled around the country entertaining. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth where he also shared his love of singing in the church choir. He and Barbara enjoyed playing golf together and spending time with their family.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wagner of Plattsmouth, NE, children, Deborah “Deb” (Peter) Shipman of Houston, TX, Kevin (Barbie) of Plattsmouth, NE, Jamie (Tracy) Matson of Millard, NE, Lisa (Lee) Morris of Fort Worth, TX, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister Donna Bornemeier of Queens Valley, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Daisy Wagner, daughter Tamara (Tammy) Hamblin, grandson, Nick Loffer, son-in-law, Tommy Hamblin, and brother-in-law, Merle Bornemeier.
A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth, NE with Dr. Lee Wigert officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook Page beginning at 2:00 PM.
Military honors will be performed by the Nebraska Army National Guard.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
