Harriet Margaret Mitchell, age 88, of Papillion, Nebraska, passed away on June 21, 2026, at the Bellevue Medical Center, Bellevue, Nebraska. She was born on August 8, 1937, to Roy and Harriet (Kohrt) Berg, in Amboy, Illinois.
Harriet was united in marriage to Harold Ashcraft on August 3, 1962, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Following Harold's passing, she found love once again with Jack Mitchell, with whom she exchanged vows on July 29, 1995, in Bellevue, Nebraska.
A woman of many talents, Harriet had a passion for sewing and cooking, activities that brought her joy and allowed her to share her creativity with those she loved. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts, further fostering her love for painting and sculpting, where her artistic spirit truly flourished.
She is survived by her children, Charlene (Don) Schwemmer of Colorado, Charles (Beverly) Ashcraft of Bellevue, NE, John (Paula) Ashcraft of the UAE, and Roy Ashcraft of Papillion, NE, stepdaughters, Karen (Bradley) Anderson and Beverly (Ronald) Brown, 11 grandchildren: Taylor (Contessa) Ashcraft and daughter, Erin (Christina) Ashcraft and daughter, Kelli (Keenan) Hughes and son, Torrin (Melissa) Ashcraft and their three children, Kyra (Taylor) Todd and their sons, Joanna Ashcraft, Nicole Ashcraft; Tommy Schwemmer and his three children, Sarah Bean and her two children, Brian (Miranda) Schwemmer and their two sons; and Christina Housley and her three children. She is also survived by her brother, Dennis (Jan) Berg of Grayslake, IL, and sisters, Leda Nofsinger of Grayslake, IL, and Goldie Gillispie Tracy of Floresville, TX, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.
Harriet's life will be celebrated with funeral services on Thursday, July 2, 2025 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 12009 S 84th St, Papillion, NE 68046. The family will greet friends from 9:00 AM until the time of the Service at the Church.
Family and friends are invited to come together, paying tribute to a remarkable woman whose legacy is defined by her artistic contributions, vibrant personality, and the love she instilled in others.
