Howard A Nelson

August 26, 1943 — June 29, 2024

Howard A. Nelson, age 80 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away on June 29, 2024 at the Florence Home in Omaha, Nebraska.  He was born on August 26, 1943 in Virgil, South Dakota to Nels and Inez (Martin) Nelson.

In 1961,  Howard enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as an aircraft mechanic on the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga.  Upon his discharge in 1966, he returned to Huron, South Dakota and was reunited with Joan Marston, the two were married on June 17, 1967 in Huron. Together they raised three boys, Jamie, Jeff and Troy.

Throughout his life, he worked as a meat cutter, owning his own Meat Locker for many years and later working as a Supervisor in the meat department of various grocery stores, including Bag and Save and Target.  He kept busy working on computers, small engines and enjoyed fishing when he was able.

Howard is survived by his sons, Jamie Nelson, Jeff (Rachel) Nelson and Troy (Sarah Jennings) Nelson all of Omaha, Nebraska, and one grandson, Brody Nelson.  He is also survived by siblings, Jeanie Lyon, Idella Bawdon, Lois Rice, Lauren Reynolds, Lisa Lentze, Steve Rice and Mark Wiand.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Joan Nelson.

Visitation will be Friday, July 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Harvey Funeral Home, followed immediately by a Graveside Service at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth.

Memorials may be directed to the VA Hospital Oncology Department.
