Hunter Michael Smith, cherished son, brother, and friend to many, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 4th, 2024, at the age of 22. Born on Monday, July 15th, 2002, in Omaha, Nebraska, Hunter lived a life filled with love, laughter, and inspiration.

A dedicated student, Hunter graduated with a pristine 4.0 GPA from Plattsmouth High School in 2020, where he was the class president. During his four years at Plattsmouth, he was an outstanding athlete competing in Cross Country, Wrestling and Track where he won numerous awards including both conference, district championships and was a two time state qualifier for track.  Throughout high school, he was involved with National Honor Society, Student Council and FCA. Hunter chose to further his education at Southwest Minnesota State University, where he obtained a bachelors degree in Political Science and was expected to graduate in May of 2025 with his MBA.   He endeavored to be an attorney and was looking forward to law school next year.  Hunter's passion for athletics was evident as he excelled in pole vaulting as a member of the SMSU indoor and outdoor track team, where he earned multiple recognitions as Athlete of the Week and currently held a school record for pole vaulting.

Hunter was a man of deep faith and shared his love of Christ with those around him.  He was currently serving as the President of the SMSU FCA Chapter.  He was a huge outdoorsman, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.  Hunter was an incredibly hard worker and aspired to greatness in all he did, the kind of person that inspired others.  He was adored by his little sisters, Sawyer and Harbor.  Hunter proudly served as a member of the US Army National Guard in Minnesota, where his dedication and patriotism were evident to all who knew him.

Hunter was the beloved son of Chris and Marla Smith and brother to his sisters, Sawyer and Harbor. He was a grandson adored by Christopher and Linda Smith, Jeanie Wood, Dennis Larsen, and Stacy and Martha Jenkins, all of Plattsmouth. Hunter also lives on in the hearts of his many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Ashley (Erik Trent) Smith and Lindsey Smith of Omaha; Clarissa (Adam) Fenton and Curtis (Maren) Larsen, as well as his great-grandma Norma Jean (William) Stamm of Atkinson, Illinois. Hunter's memory will also be cherished by his girlfriend, Malayna Kiel of Oelwein, Iowa.  He is also survived by Natalie, Lucas and Bruce Papstein, Elton Beck, Erin (Isaac) Dritt and Jaret (Kristin) Jenkins.   He was preceded in death by his uncle, Brett Larsen.
