Jack Raymond Gorton (1948 - 2024)

Jack Raymond Gorton, age 76, a devout Christian from Plattsmouth, NE returned to God on October 9, 2024.  Jack was born in Omaha, NE on July 6, 1948, to Wayne and Gertrude Gorton.

He graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1966, where he was football team co-captain and starting lineman.  A proud veteran, Jack served two years in the U. S. Army, including duty as a helicopter door gunner stationed at Long Binh, Viet Nam.  Jack married his wonderful wife Kathy on December 23, 1972.  He loved working as a masonry contractor for more than fifty years. Jack’s craftsmanship is evident in the many structures that he created or restored around Plattsmouth. Jack also tenaciously served as a rural postman for 25 years starting in 1980.

Jack loyally served Plattsmouth VFW Post 2543 for more than five decades and is especially remembered for his dedication to the Honor Guard. His many friends will certify that Jack was a barbecue expert and knew how to throw a party.

Jack was preceded in death recently by his beloved wife Kathy, and earlier by his mother Gertrude, his father Wayne and his older brother Jerry. He is survived by his daughter Julie Hollenbeck (Bob), granddaughters Jessica and Jenny Hollenbeck, sister Valerie Smith (Rob) and nephew Byron Gorton (Teresa).

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8 PM at Harvey Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth with Rev. Matt Coplen officiating.

Graveside Services will be Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 12:30 PM at the Omaha National Cemetery.
