James John Bierma, Jr., passed away surrounded by family at his home in Plattsmouth, NE, on June 7, 2024, at the age of 76. James was born on August 25, 1947, in Slayton, MN, to James John Bierma, Sr., and Hadie Bents.
James grew up and attended high school in Fulda, MN. After completing his high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country with distinction and would retire with honor. On July 20, 1985, James married Kimberly Cundiff, in Marshall, MN. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Throughout his life, James had a deep passion for auto body restoration, which he pursued professionally at Werner Trucking. His skills and attention to detail were evident in every project he undertook. Outside of work, James was a devoted member of the VFW, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was actively involved in supporting fellow veterans.
In addition to his love for restoration, he had a passion for landscaping, and all things related to Christmas decorations. He enjoyed attending farm and car shows, and he had a special affinity for antique tractors. Above all, James was family-oriented, and he treasured the time spent with his loved ones.
James and Kimberly were blessed with a blended family of six children: Jesse Cundiff, Cory Bierma, Travis (Ashley) Bierma, Lance (Jessica) Bierma, Jason (Jenny) Bierma, and Tamsen (James) Skala. His heart was further enriched by his 14 grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride into his life. James is also survived by his sister, Alice (John) Trierweiler, and his mother-in-law, Claire Cundiff.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jesse Cundiff, and his brother-in-law Wayne Cundiff.
A graveside service to honor James's life will be held at the Omaha National Cemetery on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Matt McGrew. Full military rites will be rendered. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present to greet friends and loved ones.
A celebration of James’s life will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the V.F.W., 510 1st Avenue, Plattsmouth, NE.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the VA Hospital, reflecting James's lifelong commitment to supporting fellow veterans.
