Obituary

Jesse Dean Louderback, 45, of Stafford County, Virginia, passed away on June 8, 2026, at the home he shared with his mother, Jeanette Louderback, following a long battle with Myotonic Dystrophy.

Jesse was born on May 31, 1981, in Papillion, Nebraska. He spent his childhood in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, where he attended local schools and graduated from Plattsmouth High School. During his school years, he was an accomplished member of the Plattsmouth High School Cross Country Team, earning numerous awards and developing a love for perseverance and competition that remained with him throughout his life.

Jesse proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Munitions Maintenance Technician. During his military service, he was assigned to Kadena Air Base, Japan, and Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. Following his military service, he continued working in the field as a civilian munitions contractor in Oman and later worked as a security officer. Jesse loved the military and remained immensely proud of his service throughout his life. He served in the Air Force from 2004 to 2008 and was later recognized as permanently and totally disabled due to service-connected conditions.

After leaving military service, Jesse lived with his brother Mark Sullivan, sister-in-law Ann Sullivan, and their children, Sean Sullivan and Bianca Drinkwater, for more than five years. During that time, he became a second father figure, friend, and confidant to Sean and Bianca. He was famous for never tattling on the kids, driving them to school when they missed the bus, babysitting their friends, and occasionally allowing them to watch movies that were probably a little scarier than their parents would have preferred.

In later years, Jesse shared a home with his mother, Jeanette, in Stafford County, Virginia, where they enjoyed the comfort of living close to one another while maintaining their own independent spaces.

Jesse was known for his quiet demeanor, gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, generosity, and loyalty. He enjoyed playing poker, taking long drives, watching movies, collecting and shooting firearms, and cheering on his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. A lifelong night owl, he could often be found staying up late watching his favorite crime dramas, including CSI and NCIS. He also had a deep appreciation for comedy and rarely missed an opportunity to enjoy stand-up performances, which brought him endless laughter and entertainment.

Nothing brought Jesse more joy than the Fourth of July. Every year at Camp Cacapon in Great Cacapon, West Virginia, he helped create unforgettable celebrations for family and friends. He looked forward to the annual trips to purchase fireworks and took special delight in selecting fireworks for the children, making sure they had plenty of sparklers, parachute launchers, and other favorites to enjoy. He often invested thousands of dollars to ensure the children in his life experienced a truly memorable holiday. The sight of parachute launchers floating through the summer sky became one of the many traditions family and friends will forever associate with him.

Camp Cacapon was one of Jesse's favorite places. In addition to celebrating the Fourth of July there each year, he rarely missed the annual Veterans Day "Guys Weekend in the Woods," where he enjoyed two of his favorite pastimes—shooting firearms and playing poker with family and friends.

Jesse's battle with Myotonic Dystrophy spanned much of his adult life. The disease progressively weakened his muscles and eventually affected his heart. Despite these challenges, he faced life with quiet determination and continued to enjoy the people and activities he loved. His family was especially grateful that his service-connected disability status was ultimately recognized, ensuring he received the support and care he had earned through his military service.

His devotion to family remained evident until the very end. Just days before his passing, Jesse completed the long drive from Virginia to Nebraska and back to attend his niece Karis Nunamaker's high school graduation. The trip reflected the deep love he had for his sister, Jenny, and her children, and his determination to be present for life's important moments despite the physical challenges he faced.

Jesse was preceded in death by his father, Troy Louderback.

He is survived by his mother, Jeanette Louderback, originally of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and currently residing in Stafford County, Virginia; his brother John Sullivan and wife Mary Ann, and their children, Mark and Christopher; his brother Mark Sullivan and wife Ann, and their children, Sean and Bianca; his brother Matthew Louderback and wife Sandy, and their daughter, Samantha; and his sister Jenny Nunamaker and husband Nathan, and their children, Trinity, Elijah, and Karis; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss his kindness, generosity, loyalty, humor, and gentle nature.

A memorial service and interment are being planned and will be announced at a later date. Jesse will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, on a date yet to be determined.

Though Myotonic Dystrophy gradually weakened his body, it never diminished his love for family, his pride in serving his country, or his generosity toward those he loved. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love of fireworks and the Fourth of July, his devotion to family, and his ability to make life a little more fun for everyone around him.
