John Leyone Casey, age 74, of Plattsmouth, passed away at his home on September 10, 2022. He was born October 8, 1947, to Leyone and Dorothy (Bruns) Casey in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
In 1965, John graduated from Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca High School. Post-graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and then a year later joined the United States Navy. He would later attend school in Milford and work for Montgomery Ward and Sears in Service Repair. John retired in 2014 but he remained busy working Part Time at the Super Wash and other side jobs.
John married Gayle Schreiter on October 12, 1968. To their union they had three children – Jill, Kari, and Jarod. In addition to spending time with his family, John enjoyed camping, fishing, and bowling. John never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He was a member of the Hugh J. Kearns American Legion Post #56 and the Plattsmouth Eagle Club FOE #365.
John is survived by his wife Gayle of Plattsmouth, his children Jill (Terry) Dasher of Plattsmouth, Kari (Brett Bennett) Casey of Plattsmouth, and Jarod (Corie) Casey of Plattsmouth; grandchildren David, Matt, Brittany, Nick, Chirstopher, Derek, Madison, Sydney, Sydney, Aimee, and Abbie; his great grandchildren, Nicky, Paisley, Saylor and numerous cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leyone and Dorothy Casey, his parents-in-law Jr. and Margaret Schreiter, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lea Ann and Terry Rogers, and his grandson Beau Dasher.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 16, at 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, Nebraska with Rev. Matt Coplen officiating. Burial will be held directly following the service at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 15, from 4-8 PM, with family greeting friends from 6-8 PM at the First Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
