John “Wendell” Peterson age 88 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at the Louisville Care Center.  He was born on September 29, 1932, in Madrid, Nebraska to Harold, Sr. and Lena M. (DeJung) Peterson.

Wendell grew up in Plattsmouth and graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1950.  While in high school, he met Darlene Dasher and the two were united in marriage on July 14, 1951, in Glenwood, Iowa.  Together they shared almost 70 years of marriage along with raising three children, Ray, Vickie, and Wendy.

Wendell started a trucking company with his father and brothers, shelling corn, hauling cattle and other farm products.  He then worked as a Millwright until retiring and was a member of the Millwright Union Local #1463 in Omaha, Nebraska.  He enjoyed working on the family farm, raising horses, wood carving and collecting antiques.  His family was his greatest joy and he enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.  He was a social member at the Plattsmouth V.F.W. and Eagles Club for many years.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Darlene Peterson of Plattsmouth, children, Ray (Sherry) Peterson of Macomb, IL, Wendy (Jack) Quimby of Plattsmouth, NE, grandchildren, Becky Wayland, Trevor Peterson, Stacie Thompson, Brian (Lori) Eledge, Crystal (Joe) Pacheco, Colby & Maddy Quimby, Ashley (Scott) Bruns, great grandchildren, Heidi & Zach Wayland, Lauren Thompson, Elise Ziegler, Ben & Emily Eledge, Abiageal, Amber & Aadyn Pacheco, Corrick “Hot Shot” Bruns, sister, Donna Jean Patton of Overland Park, KS, sister-in-law, Tress Peterson of Plattsmouth, NE.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Peterson, Sr. and Lena Sloan, step-mother Mary Sutton-Peterson, daughter, Vickie Eledge, infant grandson, Tyler Peterson, brothers, Gilbert (Marilyn) Peterson and Harold Peterson, Jr.

Visitation will be Friday, July 16, 2021 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.

Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth, NE.

Memorials are suggested to be sent to the family for future designation.
