John Joseph Wallace, 78, of Bellevue, passed away on Thursday, April 24th, 2025. Born on July 19th, 1946, in Omaha, to John and Frances (Richter) Chereck.
John proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was part of the esteemed Submarine Service. His commitment and bravery earned him the respect of his fellow servicemen.
Following his military service, John would marry his first wife Joyce in 1970. Together they had two sons, John Jr. and Jason. Unfortunately, after twenty years together, Joyce would pass away in 1990. In 1993, John married Cherie Hodge. John was a man who liked to work with his hands and stay busy. He had a job as a welder with Fruehauf Trailer, demonstrating exceptional skill and leadership, that would eventually allow him to rise to the position of Area Manager. He was also a truck driver and custodian at both Wheeler Presbyterian Church and at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth. In addition to work, he had a love for auctions, dancing, and his unique collections, consisting of both marbles and baseballs.
John was deeply involved with the VFW Post #2543, where he held the post of Commander, and he also cherished his time as a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #365.
John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Joseph Chereck and Frances Mae Cherek, his cherished spouses, Joyce Wallace, and Cherie Wallace, his son, Jason Wallace, and siblings, Sandra Wallace, Richard Chereck, and Dale Wallace. He is survived by his son John Wallace, Jr. and his, brothers, Stephen (Robin) Holton of Omaha and Roger Wallace of Bellevue.
A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held at Sunset Hills Baptist Church, 9416 Pacific Street, Omaha, NE on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, at 10:30 am, with a reception to follow.
Burial will be held on a later date at the Graceland Cemetery in Omaha, NE.
Donations in John's name can be made to the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home.
