Joyce L. Gehrig

Joyce L. Gehrig was born on December 3, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska to Richard and Edith (Larabee) Herring. She passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 46 years, 9 months and 11 days. Joyce was united in marriage on September 25, 1982 to Frank Gehrig in Papillion, Nebraska and together they raised three children, Elizabeth, Zachary and Nicholas. Joyce loved children and spent a great deal of her life working with them as a teacher and social worker. She taught at the Plattsmouth Head Start and then became a social worker with Region 6 HHSS. She is survived by her husband, Frank Gehrig, Plattsmouth; Daughter, Elizabeth & Patrick Lieb, Bellevue; Sons: Zachary Gehrig, Japan; Nicholas Gehrig, Plattsmouth, granddaughter, Arrielle Lieb; mother, Edith & Orie Staab, Omaha; sister, Kathy & Jerry Vinci, Ohio; brothers, Gary & Lauri Herring, Omaha; Joe Herring, Council Bluffs, IA. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Herring and sister Linda Peetz. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 6:30 P.M. at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsmouth. Memorials may be directed to the Plattsmouth Head Start.
