Kenneth "Mike" Hampton

Kenneth “Mike” Hampton passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011 in Lincoln, Nebraska after battling MS and Parkinson’s for the past 16 years. He was born on October 28, 1947 to Jim and Lou Alice (Dunn) Hampton in Dyersburg, TN. He grew up in Dyersburg and graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1965. He entered the United States Air Force in 1965 and served faithfully for 22 years and 9 months. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1988 from Offutt Air Force Base. He was a Vietnam veteran and served overseas in Spain for 3 years and Okinawa for 3 years. In addition to his overseas tours he was stationed in Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, Indiana and Nebraska. While in the Military he completed his degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. After retirement from the Air Force he worked as an insurance agent with Johnson Insurance in Plattsmouth, NE. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. While stationed at Perrin AFB in Denison, TX he met and later married his wife, Mary Ellen Daughton. They were married on February 9, 1970 in Honolulu, HI. Mike was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved golf. He was a member for many years of the Omaha Fish and Wildlife better known as “Lakeland”. He loved to camp in his trailer and spent a lot of time fishing the lakes there. He made annual trips to Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee each year to spend week fishing with his 4 brothers. While stationed in Indiana he was in the top 6 for the state for bass fishing. He loved to duck and goose hunt and bagged a few deer. Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of 42 years. He has one daughter, Jennifer Michelle Babe of Plattsmouth, NE. He has one son, Christopher Michael Hampton and Wife Becky who reside in Laramie, WY. where he is attending school. He has 6 grandchildren; Tyler James Kennedy, Kyle Hunter Babe, Kimberly Renae Babe, Aleecya Dee Angel Davis, Lillian Marie Hampton and Isabelle Hazel Hampton. He also has two step grandchildren; Merlin and Skylar Goode. He has four brothers Jim and Patty Hampton; Joe and Brenda Hampton all of Dyersburg, TN; David and Peggy Hampton of Jackson, MS.; Don and Bonnie Hampton of Memphis, TN. He has one sister-in-law, Judy Hosp of Denison, TX. He also has 7 nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Tanner Chase Babe. Funeral services for Mike will be Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. at First Baptist Church, 16220 Memorials may be made to the family or the Youth Group at First Baptist Church of Plattsmouth, NE. Hwy 75 of Plattsmouth, NE. with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Raymond Wicks. Visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2012 at Brian P. Harvey Funeral Home – 306 N. 7th St. – Plattsmouth., NE from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Family will greet friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the family or the Youth Group at First Baptist Church of Plattsmouth, NE.
