Larry D. Nelsen, age 86 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Louisville Care Center in Louisville, Nebraska. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on April 16, 1938, to Melvin and Margaret (Paulsen) Nelsen.
A proud graduate of Tech High School in Omaha in 1955, Larry went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hanson. His service was a significant part of his life's journey, and he cherished his annual Naval reunions, reconnecting with those who shared in his experiences.
After his military service, Larry was united in marriage to Patsy R. Gourley in Ralston, Nebraska together they raised two daughters, Martha and September. They made their home in Plattsmouth in 1970. Larry embarked on a successful career as a pipeliner with Enron, where he dedicated over 30 years before enjoying his well-deserved retirement. His hard work and commitment were a testament to his character and values.
Larry was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth. He was also an active participant in the Cavalier Motorcycle Club, the American Motorcycle Club, and the VFW. His passion for riding motorcycles, his love of fishing, and his adventurous spirit led him to explore all 50 states. Larry's travels and hobbies enriched his life and those of his loved ones.
He is survived by his children Martha (Tim) Neumann of Louisville, NE, and September (Ron O'Neill) Nelsen of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren, Melissa, Jake, and Luke Neumann; and his brothers, Stephen Nelsen of Lincoln, NE, and Michael Nelsen of Santa Fe, NM.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patsy R. Nelsen, his father Melvin W. Nelsen, and his mother Margaret L. Nelsen
A visitation will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth, NE, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am with Rev. Ryan Maser officiating. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 2:30 PM at the Omaha National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
