Lela D Prince

Lela Dean Prince, age 91, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away on February 22, 2025, at Prestige Care Center in Nebraska City. She was born on June 28, 1933, in Griffin, Arkansas, to Porter and Mamie (Ward) Wiley.

Lela was united in marriage to Boyd Prince, and together they shared a life full of adventure and hard work. She spent many years working at Morrilton Plastics in Morrilton, Arkansas, and was also known for her exceptional sewing skills. She previously worked at a shop specializing in custom boat covers and took great joy in making clothes and dolls for her grandchildren.

Throughout their lives, Lela and Boyd lived in various places, including Arkansas, Oklahoma, California, and Illinois. Most notably, her grandchildren fondly remember their time living on top of Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas. Lela and Boyd owned and operated several restaurants in Ola, Morrilton, Dardanelle, and Plainview, Arkansas. Their final restaurant, Lela’s BBQ in Plainview, became well known for Lela’s incredible cooking. She was especially famous for her fried pies, which attracted visitors from both the local area and as far as Little Rock and Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Lela is survived by her son, Dewayne Prince, and his wife Mary of Plattsmouth, NE; two granddaughters, Becky Headley and her husband Mike of Plattsmouth, NE, and Lori Lafleur of Des Moines, IA. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Maggie & Brock Headley, Julia, Alex, and Owen Prince, Tiara Prince, and Sophia & Aubrey Lafleur, as well as four great-great-grandchildren: Avery, Kash, and Sage Johnson, and Brecken Prince. Lela was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Boyd, two brothers, Dick and Virgil, an infant sister who passed away from rheumatic fever, and her beloved grandson, Brian Prince, who lost his battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
