Lela M Smith

Lela Margaret (Johnson) Smith age 89 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Louisville Care Center in Louisville, Nebraska.  She was born September 19, 1932 in Lucerne Kansas to Chester and Josephine (Heize) Johnson.

She graduated from high school in Morland Kansas. Attended Central College in McPherson Kansas where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught school in Morland as well as coached basketball and softball. In Morland she met Jarold Lee Smith and they married on December 5, 1953 in Hoxie Kansas. They moved to Culver Kansas where she taught school. They later moved to Plattsmouth in 1965.

Lela and Lee as he was commonly known had three children, Jay Dee, Greg and Dana.

Lela is survived by her daughter Dana (Lance) Burnett of Plattsmouth, Greg (Michelle) Smith Davenport Iowa, grandson Dalton Burnett, granddaughters Amber (Alex) Heppner, Brittany (Robert) Webb, Carlie Smith, Madison Burnett, Marissa Burnett, brother Harold Corky Johnson, sisters Esther Headley and Glenda Stephen.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, son Jay Dee, grandson Joshua Smith, Brother Wilber Johnson, sisters Alice Griffin and Patricia Cozad.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the Funeral Service.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
