Leona "Le" Hopp

Leona “Le” (Heigl) Hopp, age 89 of Plattsmouth, passed away Tuesday March 8, 2022 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, NE. She was born June 10, 1932, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Rich) Heigl in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

Le grew up in Plattsmouth and graduated with the PHS class of 1950. On March 4, 1950, she married John Hopp at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plattsmouth, together they raised three daughters, Patricia, Ann, and Linda. Le worked as a dental assistant for many years as well as babysitting, and retail.

Le, as those close to her knew her as, enjoyed visiting and talking with others especially her “Posse” group. She was also always willing to lend a hand when others were in need. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Spirit where she taught Sunday School.  She enjoyed playing cards, baking, painting and reading.  In her retirement years, she and John would spend winters in Texas.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hopp of Papillion, NE; Ann Durkin of Bellevue, NE; Linda (Dan) Borton of Bellevue, NE; her five grandchildren:  Tarenda (Johannes) Van Vessum, Sean Durkin, Jonathan Borton, Deanne (Jerry) Slafter, Michael (Lisa) Durkin, 8 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Le was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Hopp, son-in-law, Michael Durkin and twelve siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Michael Houlihan officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, March 14, 2022, from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Church of the Holy Spirit or St. Jude’s.
