Lowell R Johnson

Lowell R. Johnson was born on June 25, 1936 in Pawnee City, NE to Homer and Eileen Johnson. He passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at his home in Plattsmouth, NE at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 16 days. Lowell’s early years were spent in Pawnee City where he attended and graduated from Pawnee City High School. During his High School years, he excelled at track, basketball and baseball earning letter awards in all three sports all four years of school. Following his high school success he was recruited to play basketball by Nebraska Wesleyan University and accepted a full scholarship. It was during college that he met a young coed named Mary Williams who eventually won Lowell’s heart. The two were married on October 15, 1958 and together raised three sons, Greg, Jeff and Kurt. Lowell spent many years in the education area, many of which were as a teacher and coach in the Plattsmouth Community Schools. He became a mentor and friend to many students throughout those years which has led to many lifelong friendships. He was also able to coach and mentor his three sons in all their sport activities. Following his teaching career, he entered the real estate and insurance industry, eventually becoming co-owner of ERA Plattco. Several years later he opened Johnson & Associates. He continued to stay in touch with his business interests the remainder of his life. Lowell was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Plattsmouth Lodge #6 A.F. & A.M., Fraternal Order of Eagles #365 and Plattsmouth Country Club. He and Mary officiated at the Nebraska State Track Meet for many years. He enjoyed the opportunity to spend time watching his 6 grandchildren at the fields/recitals watching and cheering the next crop of athletes/performers. He is survived by his by wife Mary of Plattsmouth; Sons: Greg Johnson and wife JoAnna of Madison, MS; Jeffrey Johnson and wife Sherri of Plattsmouth, NE. 6 Grandchildren, Tyler, Megan, Paige, Olivia, AnnaReese, Cecilia. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Eileen Johnson, son Kurt Johnson, infant grandson Tanner Johnson and sister Pat Schulke. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth, NE. NO VISITATION.
