Mary Ellen Coen

Mary Ellen Coen, age 92, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 22, 2024. She was born on July 15, 1932, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Timothy Woster and Rose (Bauer) Woster.

Mary Ellen grew up in Plattsmouth and graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1949.  She was married to Rex William Coen on July 16, 1951, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and together they raised three children, Sherrie, Michael and Tina.

Mary Ellen was a dedicated homemaker who also briefly worked at World Insurance and later Dr. Boyd’s Office. She had a passion for collecting dolls and bears, enjoyed watercolor and oil painting, cherished reading and collecting books, and was nicknamed  a "Garage Sale Queen."

She is survived by her children Sherrie Coen of Omaha, Nebraska; Michael W. (Shelia) Coen of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; Tina (Steven) Shogrin of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren Matt, Jeremy, and Tim Coen, and Dexter Shogrin; great-grandson Issac Zoucha.; and sister-in-law Doris Coen of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Rose Woster; her husband, Rex Coen; and siblings Clem Woster, Dorothy Murray, Henry Woster, Rose Love, Florence Sindelar, Alice Ulrich, and Robert Woster.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Harvey Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. The family suggests memorials to HAPPY Paws.
