Mary E. Johnson, age 94 of Plattsmouth, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at the Bellevue Medical Center. She was born in Kansas on June 17, 1931, to Marion and Georgia (Vaughn) Prudden.
She was united in marriage to Edward L. Johnson on August 18, 1949, in Rock Port, Missouri. Together they eventually made their home in Nehawka and raised four children, Juanita, Jean, Georgia and James. Mary worked hard doing housekeeping for local friends, working as the janitor as the Nehawka School and later for Excel in Nebraska City.
She was known for her vibrant personality, strong opinions, and outgoing nature. Mary had a wide range of interests, including crocheting, cooking and baking, coloring, playing bingo, and listening to old country and religious music. She had a generous spirit and would bake goods to donate to special causes. She often made charitable donations, especially those benefiting children. In her early years, she and Edward enjoyed going to local street dances. She also spent a great deal of time babysitting her grandchildren, which she loved and was time she cherished.
She is survived by her daughters Juanita Hoyle of Wisconsin and Jean (Karl) Neumeister of Nehawka, NE, and her son James Johnson of Nebraska City, Nebraska; grandchildren; Eddie (Mellissa Thomas) Midkiff, Allen ( Shari) Midkiff, Chad (Cari) Godsey, Shanda (Patrick) Monaghan, Shelly (Ace) Richt, Shawn (Chrissy) Miller, Joseph (Katie Burns) Neumeister, Jami (Alex) LaRiviere, numerous great and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by special friends Charles (Pam Shenefield) Miller.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Georgia Prudden, husband Edward Johnson, daughter Georgia Bartlett, grandson Christopher Johnson, and siblings Merlyn Prudden, Floyd Prudden, Lillian Morris, and Evelyn Hart.
A visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, June 26th, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. at the Brian P. Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth, NE. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 AM at Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Nehawka on Friday, June 27th, 2025. The family requests that donations be made to Apace in Nebraska City.
