Richard A. Boettcher, Sr., 86, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Plattsmouth, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on March 10, 2024. He was born on August 21, 1937, in Pennsauken, New Jersey, to William Boettcher, Jr., and Grace E. (Clark) Boettcher.
Growing up in New Jersey, Richard graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden before embarking on a journey of service to his country. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, during a time of peace. On September 16, 1961, he exchanged vows with Stella Ruth Thorne at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camden, New Jersey, embarking on a lifelong partnership. Together, they raised two children, Deborah and Richard, Jr.
After his military service, Richard ventured into the professional world, initially joining the RCA Company on a government contract that led his family to Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue. His career path later transitioned to the US National Bank, which eventually became Norwest Bank. Throughout his tenure, Richard pursued further education at the Wisconsin School of Banking. Subsequently, he ventured into entrepreneurship, owning and operating Modern Litho in Omaha. Even in retirement, Richard remained active, dedicating another 14 years to service at Cass County Bank in Plattsmouth.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Richard was known for his artistic talents, finding joy in drawing, painting, and sharing his passion for magic with friends. Renowned for his captivating storytelling, he also dedicated his life to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For years, Richard served in kids’ ministry, holding positions as both a Deacon and Elder of his church. Alongside his wife, Ruth, he led a Christian-based grief support group for two decades, offering solace and compassion to those in need.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Boettcher of Lincoln, NE; children, Deborah (Ted) Sheely of Lincoln, NE, and Rich (Sue) Boettcher, Jr., of Franklinton, NC; grandchildren, Andrea (Ben) Bleicher, Bethany (Chad) Tournade, Brittney Boettcher, Bekah (Brandon) Whitman, Richie (Kirsten) Boettcher III, Leelee, and Lebee Sunday; great-grandchildren, Carson, Jonah, Emmett, Nikko, Bailey Rae, Archer, Scarlett, Elizah Sue, Lilly Mae, Vincent, and Brynnlee; and a sister, Sandra Wilson of Pennsauken, NJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Boettcher III, sister Peggy Day, and great-grandchild Vivian, as well as other grandchildren and great-grandchildren already waiting in heaven.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with family greeting friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:30 AM at First Free Church, 3300 S 84th St, Lincoln, NE.
Graveside services will follow on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth, NE.
