Richard "Dick" F Berner

March 28, 1930 — November 5, 2019

Richard Fred Robert Berner, age 89 of Cass County, NE passed away at his home November 5, 2019. He had resided in Avoca, Nehawka, Louisville and most recently in Plattsmouth.  Dick was born March 28, 1930 to Dietrich Christian and Alma (Ottens) and baptized at the Christian Church in Avoca, NE.  He graduated from Avoca High School although he attended Nehawka High School for the majority of his High School years. Following High School graduation (1948), Dick attended a business school, The Lincoln School of Commerce, and then worked in the office of Ash Grove 17 years.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Muriel (Ketelhut), daughter Mary Lennea (Bob) Smith, sisters Minnie (Harvey) Baller, Helen (Carl) Lindhardt, brother, Paul (Pansy) Berner.

Dick was united in marriage to Muriel June 19, 1949. They had two daughters, Kathy and Lennea.  They joined the Louisville United Methodist Church in 1950. Dick was a 69 year member of that church.  Muriel and Dick owned and operated Berner Insurance Agency; Berner Chevrolet, Frontier Chevrolet; Louisville State Savings and Loan; and R. R. Berner Real Estate; all in Louisville, Nebraska.  He served on the Board of Trustees at Midlands Community Hospital, also on the NE Cass County Watershed District.

Muriel passed away suddenly in 1993 after 44 years of marriage.   Dick was united in marriage in 1995 to Mary Sullivan. They were married for 24 years.

Dick is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Kathy Copple (Robert), grand children Brandon and Justin Copple; great-grandchildren Gavin, Maddie, Aiden,& London Copple; grandson  Robby Coonts,  great grand-children Scott Coonts,  Amanda Darnell  (Justin).  Grandson Rusty (Diane) Coonts, great grand-children Rusty II, great-great grandchildren Hope and Trey, great-granddaughter Lacey (Jeff) Powell, great-great-grandson Xander Powell; Granddaughter  Carrie Young, great-granddaughter, Taylor Young;

Dick is also survived by 3 step-children, Leigh Ann (Richard) Eggert,  grand-children Alex (Jill) great granddaughters, Elliot and Emery Eggert; Grandson Andrew (Fiancee-Marissa), granddaughter Amanda, and grandson  Adam Eggert;  Daniel (Lori) Huebner & grandsons, Daniel L., Jeremy Langford, Paul Langford (Miriam) and great-grandson, Seth;  David (Anita) Huebner  and grandsons Sullivan and Grant.

Survivors also include sister-in law Barbara Rounsborg and brother-in law, Bill (Bonnie )Sullivan;  Nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.

Dick liked to travel, go to the movies, Menards, and to eat-out. Dick was an entrepreneur, a gentle man and a gentleman. A proud man of German descent.  He was quiet spoken and kind. Dick was Sunday School Superintendant for many years.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM – First United Methodist Church, Louisville, NE

Visitation will be Thursday, November 7 th from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Harvey Funeral Home, 1408 8 th Ave, Plattsmouth and Friday, November 8 th from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home, 413 Elm Street, Louisville.  The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM both evenings.

Memorials may be directed to the Donor’s Choice or Louisville United Methodist Church.
