Richard “Dick” H. Fischer was born March 13, 1928 in Lincoln to Alex and Maria (Scheidman) Fischer. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska with his wife, of 67 years by his side. He was raised along with his 8 siblings in Lincoln where he graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1946.
In March of 1946 Dick enlisted in the US Army attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the Army, he was tasked with the training of new cadets in infantry customs. After his discharge in 1947, he returned to Lincoln, where he worked with his father for 6 months as a concrete contractor. Dick was united in marriage to Betty I. Barnhill in Lincoln on April 4, 1948 and together they raised 2 children, Richard L and Carol Ann. During this same time, he was hired by the Lincoln Telephone Company. His career with the Telephone Company spanned 45 years, taking his family to the communities of Milford, Wymore, Pawnee City and finally to Plattsmouth as District Manager. He retired from the phone company in 1991.
It was very important for Dick to be active in his community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as both an Elder and Deacon. He was also member of the Plattsmouth Rotary Club, serving as President and Treasurer. He was also a Past District Governor for Rotary District 5650. His other community involvement included the Plattsmouth Chamber and Plattsmouth Masonic Lodge #6 A.F. & A.M. Aside from community activities, Dick enjoyed golfing and fishing.
He is survived by his wife: Betty Fischer of Plattsmouth, NE; children: Richard L. (Janet) Fischer of Milford, NE; Carol Ann (Steve) Hoffman of Overland Park, KS. grandchildren: Jennifer Fischer, Drew (Leslie) Fischer, Emily Hoffman, Alex Hoffman; great grandchildren: Taylor Homan, Ellie, Jackson & Evan Fischer; Sister: Darlene (Gene) Louck of Lincoln, NE. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by: parents, sisters, Mollie Spealman, Marie Long, Esther Schwartz, baby sister, Marie Fischer, brothers, Alex Fischer, John Fischer, Harold Fischer, and Edward Fischer and an infant great granddaughter, Jordyn Kay Homan.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, NE with Rev. Carl Anderson and Fr. Phillip Chapman officiating. Carol Wehrbein was the organist and Jan Stuckey was the Pianist.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Harvey Funeral Home.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, Nebraska
