LIVESTREAM (Click Here)

Roger Henry Kunkee, age 77, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the Hospice House in Omaha surrounded by loved ones.

Roger was born to Fred and Dora (Kisker) Kunkee on May 29, 1949, in McCook, Nebraska. He was baptized on June 19, 1949, and confirmed on May 12, 1963, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural McCook, where he was lovingly raised in the Christian faith. He graduated from McCook Senior High School in 1967, attended McCook Community College, and graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1971.

On September 7, 1974, Roger was united in marriage to Betty Coy in Shenandoah, Iowa. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, love, and family. On August 8, 1978, they welcomed their daughter, Kelli Dawn, who became their greatest blessing and brought immeasurable joy to Roger’s life.

Roger devoted his professional life to the agricultural industry, building a distinguished career with International Harvester/Case International. He served in a variety of business and marketing roles throughout his career. His dedication to the company brought opportunities that took his family to communities throughout Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. After nearly 40 years, Roger retired from Case International in Racine, Wisconsin, and ultimately returned to Nebraska in 2016 with Betty to enjoy retirement together.

Roger was a faithful and active member of the Lutheran Church. His faith was a steady guide throughout his life, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. His love for his family was evident in all he did, and he took great pride in being a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Roger will be remembered for his steady presence, quick wit, and his unmistakable laugh. He found joy in life’s everyday moments - cheering on the Huskers, enjoying a competitive card game, watching the Cowboy Channel, or rarely missing an episode of Jeopardy!.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Kunkee; his daughter, Kelli Kunkee; his siblings, Kathy Kunnemann, Ruth Ann Hackenkamp, and Delbert Kunkee; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Dora (Kisker) Kunkee; his siblings, Delores Deines and Raymond Kunkee; his in-laws Eugene and Clara (Smith) Coy.

There will be two funeral services:

Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 10:30am at First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth, NE (1025 Avenue D, Plattsmouth, NE 68048) with coffee and light refreshments to follow. This service will also be livestreamed.

Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00am at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook, NE (411 E 6th Street, McCook, NE 69001) with lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

The family gives thanks to God for Roger’s life, his enduring faith, and the many blessings he shared with those who knew and loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, his love, laughter, and legacy will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to call him family and friend.

Arrangements by Brian P. Harvey Funeral Home, Plattsmouth, NE 402-296-4445.
