Sammy K. Pierce

Sammy (Sam) K. Pierce was born Jan. 12, 1944 to Clayton & Ella (Hummel) Pierce at Hamburg, IA. He passed away February 23, 2014 in Nebraska City, NE. Sam graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1962 and entered the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War. On August 30, 1969 he married Shirley (Peters) Prather. Sam worked for Union Pacific as an electrician for many years. He then established his own business Pierce Electric and at one time was the only master electrician in Cass County. He worked for 38 years in the area before retiring. Sam loved Star Trek, visiting with his grandchildren, playing Rummy and Chess. He enjoyed Nebraska Football following the team for many years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Plattsmouth; children - Christine (Ernie) DeSimone – Plattsmouth, Kelly Edholm – Florida, Suzanne Pierce – Plattsmouth; grandchildren - Brett, Blair and Sydney Edholm, Jacob Pierce, Andrea and Connor DeSimone; brothers – Marvin – Omaha, Larry – Fremont and Donnie – Gretna. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Andrea Prather (1972) and grandson Blake Edholm. Funeral Services were Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 10:00 A. M. at Harvey Funeral Chapel, with burial at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery – Plattsmouth, NE. Visitation will be held Tuesday Feb. 25th from 1 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
