Sarah Jayne Ofe

Sarah "Jayne” Gorton Ofe passed away on April 8, 2024 at 89 years of age in the comfort of her home surrounded by family members.

Jayne was born to Donald and Margaret (Moore) Gorton on June 13, 1934 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was the second-oldest of four children. She attended elementary and high school in Tecumseh, Nebraska, leaving a mark as a spirited cheerleader. She attended the University of Nebraska and was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. It was during her college years at a Nebraska-Colorado Football game in Boulder that she met her soulmate, Carl Ofe. They married on May 21, 1954, in Harlan, IA and shared a loving union with five children: Susan, Tom, Margaret “Missy”, Donald Jay “D.J.”, and Michael.

As a devoted homemaker, Jayne's warmth and hospitality were evident in her role as a nurturing mother and gracious hostess to her children and their family friends. She dedicated herself to attending various child-rearing functions, including sporting events, swim team, school banquets, band competitions, boy and girl scout events, and many more activities that embody the essence of maternal love and support.

Jayne loved golfing, visiting Merritt Beach, gambling and playing bridge with friends, basking in the sun, spending time with her grandchildren, and organizing family vacations to Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. A breast cancer survivor, Jayne's resilience and courage inspired all who knew her. She embraced life with zest and gratitude, treasuring every moment spent with her family and friends. Jayne's legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Jayne leaves to cherish her loving memory, her husband Carl P. Ofe; Children Tom (Pam) Ofe, Margaret “Missy” (Larry) Fleck, Donald Jay “D.J.” Ofe, and Stacy Schreiber-Ofe (in-law); Grandchildren Sarah Current, Andy (Jen) Current, Chris (Rosie) Ofe, Liz (Gene) Quinn-Reinersman, Grant Campbell, Nate (Caroline) Ofe, Clare (Jeff) Campbell-Olsen, Kyle (HaiLee) Ofe, and Tanner Ofe; sisters Sue Lawlor and Linda Gorton; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jayne is preceded in death by parents Donald and Margaret Gorton; children Susan Webster and Michael Ofe; brother Jay Gorton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Plattsmouth, Nebraska

A Visitation Celebrating Jayne's Life will be on Sunday, April 14, 2024 with the family greeting friends from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Harvey Funeral Home.
