Sterling Anderson Cole, age 87 of Plattsmouth was born on April 30, 1927 in Weeping Water, Nebraska to Roy C. and Iva Fern (Lloyd) Cole. He passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska.
Sterling graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1945 and then enlisted in the United States Army serving during World War II. His military assignment took him to Germany during the war. After returning to Nebraska, he was united in marriage with Honey Lou LaHoda on May 1, 1948 in Glenwood, Iowa. The couple made their home in Plattsmouth and raised two daughters, Vicki and JoRene.
He began a career with Burlington Northern Railroad which spanned 40 years. During his career he worked in the Burlington shops in both Plattsmouth and Lincoln working his way to a management position before retiring. He was a member of the Plattsmouth Eagles Club F.O.E. #365 where he was a Golden Eagle, Past President and a former Trustee. He was also a member of the Hugh J. Kerans Post #56 American Legion, Lepert-Wolever Post #2543 V.F.W. and previously served on the Plattsmouth City Council.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter and Husker football fan. He enjoyed Polka Music, going to dances, working on projects around his home and gardening. His greatest joy was the time he was able to spend with his family.
He is survived by his wife Honey Lou, Plattsmouth, daughters, Vicki Snyder and husband Bob of Plattsmouth, NE; JoRene Landwehr and husband Larry of Nebraska City, NE; Grandchildren: Julie Newman, Robin (Ryan) Winters, Haley (Adam) Schlorholtz, Logan Landwehr. Great granddaughter, Rylee Newman, Brother Stanley Cole of Walden, Co; Sisters-in-law; Bernice Cole of Nebraska City, NE; Mildred Cole of Oak Grove, MO. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson, Oliver J. Winters, infant brother, Kenneth Cole, brothers Theron & Frances Cole, sister and brother-in-law, Maxine & Marvin Koch, sister-in-law, Joan Cole, and nephew, Dennis Cole.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsmouth, Ne with Rev. Michael Lincoln officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, NE with Military Honors by Lepert-Wolever Post #2543 V.F.W.
