Steven "Big Foot" L Kahler

Steven L. “Big Foot” Kahler, age 73, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born on April 29, 1950, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City to Orval and Esther (Williams) Kahler.

Known affectionately as Big Foot by his friends and family, Steven grew up in Plattsmouth and graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1969. During his high school years, he met Ilene Jensen, and the high school sweethearts were united in marriage on November 29, 1969, at the Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth. He enlisted in the Army Reserves and served his country for 6 years as a Drill Sergeant. Steve and his father Orval started Kahler Construction in 1970 and engaged in a variety of general contracting work throughout the area until his passing. His career afforded him the opportunity to meet many people and profoundly impact the lives of those he encountered.

With a passion for speed and productivity, Steve was always “Going Fast,” whether racing his car down the track in the thrill of drag racing or enjoying hunting, fishing, snowmobile trips, and boating. He was an active member of the Leper-Wolver Post #2543 VFW and the Eagles Club, both of Plattsmouth.

Steve is survived by his wife, Ilene Kahler; sons, Dennis (Tammy) Kahler and Kevin Kahler, all of Plattsmouth; grandchildren, Kelsey Fisher, Justice Kahler, Kaiden Kahler, and Charlee-Jo Sempeck; sister, Sharlene (Wayne) Molck of Plattsmouth; and brother, Stanley Kahler of Murray. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Steven David Kahler and nephew, Gary Molck.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from Noon until 4:00 PM at The Venue (old Plattsmouth Country Club) 18003 Club View Drive, Plattsmouth, NE. Visitation with family greeting friends will be Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Harvey Funeral Home, Plattsmouth, NE. Burial will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
