Obituary

Susan C. Bonitz, 77, of Papillion, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, at the Bellevue Medical Center.

Born November 24, 1948, in Nebraska City, Susan was the daughter of Virgil Francis and Mary Jean Rouse. She grew up in Plattsmouth, where she attended and graduated from Plattsmouth High School. She later began her career at Mutual of Omaha.

Susan married Thomas Bonitz on July 13, 1976, in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, they shared 50 years of marriage, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in July 2026.

Susan found great happiness in life's simple pleasures, especially at her beloved lake home in Hawaiian Village near Papillion. An avid gardener and lover of nature, she delighted in tending her gardens and enjoying the wildlife that visited her lakeside retreat. She loved feeding the fish, ducks, geese, and birds, and held a special affection for hummingbirds.

Her love of animals extended to her cherished Shih Tzus, who brought her endless companionship and joy. Susan was also an enthusiastic Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan.

Above all, Susan treasured her family and friends. She shared a lifelong bond with her beloved sister, Kellie Risk. Though cousins by birth, they were sisters at heart.

Susan enjoyed hosting dinner parties, sharing good food and conversation, and spending leisurely afternoons antique hunting with those closest to her. Her home was a place of friendship, laughter, and warm hospitality.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Francis and Mary Jean Rouse, and her brother, Steven Wayne Rouse.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Bonitz, her beloved sister Kellie Risk, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her friendship.

Susan will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of nature, and her devotion to family and friends. Her kindness, warmth, and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A private graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
