Vanessa M Sorrell

Vanessa M. Sorrell age 72 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away on October 4, 2024 at her home in Plattsmouth.  She was born on January 15, 1952 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to William A. and Lillian J. (Smith) Goldsberry.

She grew up in the Council Bluffs area  where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1970.  She later moved to Plattsmouth, where she met and married her beloved husband, Dennis Sorrell on February 6, 1987, at the First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth.

Vanessa worked for Plattsmouth Community Schools for over 30 years, as a Copy Technician in the Copy Center, where her work was valued by staff and students alike. In her personal life, Vanessa loved reading and spending time outdoors, especially on camping outings. Together with Denny, she enjoyed going on bus tours, cruising in their cherished 1966 Impala Convertible, and attending Joseph Hall’s Elvis Shows. She also made regular morning trips to Scooters.

Vanessa was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Plattsmouth.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Sorrell of Plattsmouth, NE, children, Michelle (Sean) Morgan of Omaha, NE, Timothy (Charity) Cherek of Plattsmouth, NE, Matt Sorrell of Omaha, NE and Krystal (Jason) Mitchell of Plattsmouth, NE, her grandchildren, Lauren (Philip Thompson) Morgan, Spencer Morgan, Sidney Morgan, Connor Morgan, Amanda (Brian) Wagner, Tabitha (Skylar) Kellison, Nathaniel Cherek, Dominic Cherek, Symantha Cherek, Gregory Furniss, Nolan (Natalie) Sorrel, Emma Sorrell, Lilly Mitchell, Tim Mitchell, two great grandchildren, Clark and Maggie Kellison.  Vanessa is also survived by her siblings, Patricia (Frank) Bigelow of Council Bluffs, IA, Gerald Goldsberry of Wisconsin and Larry (Sharon) Goldsberry of Omaha, NE, sister-in-laws, Peg Goldsberry and Annetta Goldsberry and brother-in-law, Jim (Pam) Sorrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian Goldsberry, brothers, William, James, Charles, Gary, Mitchell, Jack, Bennie and Gene Goldsberry and sisters, Cleo Mae Vaugniaux and Donna Harrod.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the Omaha National Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
