Verna Kathryn Cadwell Perry was born on August 1, 1919 in Superior, Wisconsin to Ernest Adelbert Cadwell and Ida (Ronsgard) Cadwell. She passed away Sunday May 29, 2011 at the Louisville Care Center in Louisville, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 28 days.
At the age of 3 she moved with her family to Union, Nebraska where her father was employed with Missouri Pacific Railroad. She attended school in Union thru the 12th grade. In 1938 her family moved to Plattsmouth, NE.
In 1940 she and De Forest Perry were married at the First Christian Church in Plattsmouth. They lived in Lincoln until he entered the Army. They moved to Louisiana and Texas before he was sent overseas. Verna came back to Lincoln and worked at Western Electric until the war ended. After De Forest’s return from the military, they moved back to Plattsmouth. She went to work at the Cass County Assessor’s office as a clerk serving in that capacity for 26 years.
Verna loved to travel, visiting 48 of the 50 United States. She always could find interest and beauty anywhere she went. Gardening was very dear to her, as was bird watching outside her window. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Plattsmouth, the American Legion Auxiliary for 58 years, the Plattsmouth Garden Club and AARP.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband De Forest, Nov. 1, 1969; parents; sisters: Vera Warga, Florence James, Betty Gunnoe and June Kerns and brothers Delbert Cadwell and Ernest Cadwell.
Surviving Verna are sister Margaret Childress of Willow AK; nieces Betty Fuhrer of Denver, CO; Donna Montgomery of Omaha, NE; Julie (Dennis) Black of Bellevue, NE; Carol (Steve) Howie of Charlotte, NC.; Barbara (Gary) Barnard of Kenas, WV.; Trina Gunnoe of Charleston, WV.; Pat (AL) DeAngelis of Bend, OR.; nephews: Larry Cadwell of Plattsmouth, NE; Mike (Peggy) Cadwell and Terry (Linda) Cadwell all of Bellevue, NE.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Plattsmouth, Nebraska with Rev. Michael Lincoln officiating.
Visitation will be at the First Christian Church with family greeting from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
