Virgil F Rouse

Virgil Francis Rouse age 92 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away peacefully at his home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska on Monday, March 2, 2020.  He was born on May 23, 1927 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska to Marion Dalton and Mabel Mae (Arnold) Rouse.

Virgil was raised in Plattsmouth, in 1945, he entered the US Army serving at the end of World War II.  After returning home, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Eledge on March 5, 1948, together they raised three children, Steven, Susan and Kellie.  Virgil went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad as a welder in the Plattsmouth Shops.  When the shop closed, he worked the remainder of his career for Union Pacific until retiring after 44 years.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching boxing and wrestling.  One of his favorite pastimes was car racing, whether watching races on TV or racing his own car, he enjoyed every minute.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary of Plattsmouth, daughters, Susan (Tom) Rouse-Bonitz of Papillion, NE, Kellie Risk of Kearney, NE, sister, Jean (Carroll) Hoppe of Plattsmouth, NE, Janet (Ron Wheeler) Newburn of Concord, CA. 5 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Marion & Mabel Rouse, son, Steven Rouse, grandson, Aleque Risk, brother, Alfred Rouse, sisters, Rose Hamilton, Wilda Jenkins, Clarice Frazier.

A celebration of Virgil’s Life will be held at a later date.
