Wilbert “Wil” LeRoy Engelkemier, of Louisville, Nebraska, peacefully passed away on March 24, 2024, at Cedarhurst Memory Care in LaVista, Nebraska, at the age of 80. He was born on January 21, 1944, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to the late Forrest A. and Lila (Meyerott) Engelkemier.

Growing up on the family farm between Plattsmouth and Louisville, Wil’s roots ran deep in the Nebraska soil. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1962 before furthering his education at Milford Trade School. Wil served his country with pride in the Nebraska National Guard. Throughout his varied career, which included truck driving, farming, and building contracting, Wil approached every task with dedication and a strong work ethic.

Wil's faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he was an active member of Christ Community Church. His deep-rooted belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ was evident in his interactions with others, as he never missed an opportunity to share his faith. He cherished his Sunday School Group friends and looked forward to their weekly gatherings. Wil enjoyed traveling, whether embarking on mission trips or exploring new destinations for leisure.

Wil is survived by his brothers and sister: Robert Engelkemier of Salix, IA, Gene (JoAnn) Engelkemier of Huntsville, AL, James (Joan) Engelkemier of Louisville, NE, Rex (Marge) Engelkemier of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Teri Greiner of Cedar Falls, IA. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Lila Engelkemier, and brother-in-law, Larry Greiner.

A memorial service to celebrate Wil's life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:30 PM at the Louisville Evangelical Free Church in Louisville, Nebraska, with Pastor Tom Starkjohn officiating. Wil will be laid to rest in a private family service at Glendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to World Venture account number 4000-096 in support of Wil’s niece’s work in Thailand.
