William "Bill" George Grunewald, age 70, of Murray, Nebraska, passed away on October 21, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born on June 21, 1955, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to William B. and Katherine (Hanke) Grunewald.
Bill graduated from Northrop High School in 1973 and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Peru State College. On June 24, 1973, he married the love of his life, Linda Kay Lamb, in Fort Wayne. Together, they raised two daughters, Tracy and Joni. Bill's love and loyalty to his young family never wavered, even as he entered the United States Air Force shortly after their marriage. Leaving home for boot camp and early assignments, he remained steadfastly devoted to Linda and their growing family, working tirelessly to provide for them and build a life grounded in love and perseverance. His sense of duty to both his country and his family defined him-he served with honor abroad while always keeping his heart firmly anchored at home.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, a testament to his dedication, leadership, and commitment. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to serve through his work as a civilian contractor in intelligence.
Known for his strong work ethic and ability to inspire others, Bill was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of VFW Post 2543 and the Plattsmouth Country Club, where he enjoyed spending time with friends.
Outside of work and service, Bill lived life to the fullest. He loved golfing, playing fast-pitch softball-both overseas in Greece and later in the Omaha area-riding his bike, and working out. A devoted football fan, he cheered passionately for both the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also loved music and dancing while Linda sang with Silver Wings. And above all, cherished the time he spent as a proud grandfather and biggest fan, cheering on all three at wrestling tournaments, football, softball and baseball games.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Grunewald of Murray, NE; daughters Tracy (John - #1 son-in-law) Hensch of Murray, NE and Joni (Tony - #2 son-in-law) Friberg of Plattsmouth, NE; grandchildren Hunter Thonen, Morgan Hensch, and Billy Friberg; sisters Victoria (Randy) Cory and Kathleen (Ray) Flick, both of Southern California; and brother Jeffrey (Brittney) Grunewald of Colorado. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cynthia Roller.
